Blog

Sustainable Steps began as a blog, and remains a blog at heart. It’s about the everyday actions each one of can take to be part of the climate solution, and to collectively build a world that works.

Underlying everything is my belief that we CAN get there. We have the tools and the science to live in harmony with each other and the planet. But we have to shift public consciousness in order to get it done fast enough. Basically, we have to collect more people who both feel the urgency and believe the solutions are possible, so that we become the majority. When we do, our politicians will have to take action.

The movement is already very much alive, and growing. But the opposition is fast and furious as well. They’re loud right now — waging wars and drilling fracking wells and committing wild human rights violations — and it’s easy to think they’re on track to take us all down with them. But the middle powers are also fighting back — meeting and talking strategy and working hard to ignore the noise and create a world order that works.

I draw a lot of inspiration from the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, a collection of 17 building blocks that (they say) need to all be working in tandem to create a future we can sustain. A lot of it is basic human decency. Things like clean drinking water for everyone, access to education across all cultures and genders and socioeconomic situations — as well as solid environmental policy from governments around the world.

Each clothing design is also like a blog post for me – a visual way to express an emotion or share ideas for sustainable steps. That’s why a lot of the item descriptions read more like conversations.

So whether you’re here to shop for T-shirts or dive into some reading material, welcome! Let’s build the world we want to live in, for generations to come.
