Returns & Exchanges
Sustainability isn’t just about what you buy. It’s also about what doesn’t end up in the landfill.
Every Sustainable Steps item is printed just for you after you order it. We don’t have warehouses full of extra inventory, and we don’t print stacks of shirts hoping someone will eventually want them.
It also means we want the shirts you order to be designs you’re excited to wear — not end up abandoned in the back of your closet.
Custom Orders
If you’ve ordered a custom message or design that isn’t part of our public offering (like your Grandma’s name or a photo of your dog) that’s a final sale.
If you’ve filled out our custom form to ask for an existing design on a different t-shirt, and we’ve put it online for you and everyone else to buy, then it becomes part of our line, and we consider it a standard order (see below), subject to our standard terms.
Standard Orders
Because everything is printed on demand, we generally can’t accept traditional returns for refunds due to:
- changing your mind
- ordering the wrong size
- deciding you’d rather have another design
- “I thought I’d wear more purple.”
BUT:
We Want You to Love Wearing It
The whole point of our line is to wear the message. Our shirts only make a difference if people actually wear them.
So if the size isn’t quite right, or the colour wasn’t what you expected, we don’t want your new shirt sitting sadly in the back of a closet.
If you send it back to us (shipping costs are your responsibility) at our address in Vancouver, Canada, we’ll happily either:
- send you a replacement in a different size or colour (subject to availability), or
- issue you store credit toward something you’ll be excited to wear.
What If We Messed Up?
Occasionally, a print doesn’t come out the way it should.
It’s rare—we partner with print shops we trust—but humans and machines aren’t perfect.
If your item arrives with a printing defect or quality issue, send us a few clear photos.
If we agree the print quality missed the mark (and we promise to be reasonable), we’ll replace it or refund your purchase.
Why We Do It This Way
Some companies build the cost of generous “no questions asked” returns into every product they sell.
That means everyone pays more.
It also means thousands of perfectly good products are shipped back and forth—or worse, thrown away.
That’s not our style.
We’d rather keep prices fair, waste as close to zero as possible, and work with you to find a solution if something isn’t quite right.
Our Promise
This began as a hobby blog, and the clothing line developed because the original blogger wanted to wear the message. We’re trying to build a community of people who are also proud to wear the message — which is why we’re keeping prices as low as we can, to keep the brand accessible while adhering to our standards of ethical, sustainable streetwear.
If something genuinely isn’t right, we’ll do our best to make it right.
If you’re trying to return a shirt because your cousin borrowed it for six months and now it’s mysteriously stained…well…maybe not.
Either way, thanks for helping us make sustainability a little more practical, a little more affordable, and a lot more fun.
