Thrifting Raccoon
This thrifty guy is our original low-key critter, dreamed up after a day my daughter and I spent shopping in several thrift shops in Vancouver. Our two top recommendations: Wildlife at Granville & Drake in the West End, and Rummage on 4th in Kitsilano. But there are many more we haven’t hit up yet. We’re using this article as a guide (and when we’re through we might just write our own).
Bee Local
This hip bumblebee knows that shopping local is a win all around. It makes for a fun day out, can yield some interesting things you won’t find at the mall, and benefits both the planet and the local economy. This t-shirt makes me think of Granville Island and the Squamish Farmer’s Market — two very different places where I feel good about spending my money.
Slow Brew Sloth
This sloth is standing outside his local coffee shop, sipping sustainable coffee. This was inspired by research I did for a blog post, and it never fails to make me feel like a lazy morning sipping ethical coffee and relaxing into the day.
Patch & Fix
I dig this backyard beaver, who much prefers to fix things than toss them — one of the cornerstones of sustainability that’s all too often lost in our fast-paced consumerist culture.
Dancing Cat With Plants
My house is a bit like a jungle, and I love spending time with each plant in it — watering and tending to its needs. Maybe I can’t offset all my carbon footprint with houseplants alone, but every leaf helps draw some carbon out of the atmosphere. These cats make me think of the people who work at Frondly — our favourite Vancouver plant shop, on 4th near Granville Island. They make shopping local a fun and rewarding experience.
Foxy Lady at the Wine Bar
Who says saving the planet can’t be fun? This design was inspired by Foxy Lady, a character in a saga that my stepfather has been telling his grandchildren since the Zoom days of the pandemic. Foxy Lady was inspired by my mother, who is very happy to sip sustainable wine to do her part to save the planet. (She does a lot more than that, too. Check out some of her guest posts when you get time.)
